Ghalwash Hospital did not begin as a hospital. It began in 1986 as a modest surgical center operating simultaneously in two working-class neighborhoods of Alexandria: Al-Dakhila and Al-Wardian. That clinic was 55 square meters. Today it occupies 1,000 square meters across five floors. The distance between those two numbers is not just space — it is four decades of surgical outcomes, patient trust, and a family's refusal to move the standard anywhere but upward.

Three Locations, One Mission

1986 – 1999

Al-Wardian & Al-Dakhila, Alexandria

A 55m² surgical center in two working-class districts. Dr. Mohammed Ghalwash introduced microsurgical techniques — complex digit transfers and nerve reconstruction — that peers considered impossible. He also pioneered bariatric surgery in Egypt during this era, facing fierce opposition before founding the Egyptian Society for Obesity Surgery.

1999 – 2003

Hanoville — in front of Halwani Classic, Alexandria

The practice formally became Ghalwash Hospital and moved to Al-Hanoville, anchored by the landmark of Halwani Classic pastry shop. This was the era of institutional growth — expanding scope, building the patient referral network, and accumulating over 2,300 complex replantations.

2003 – Present

Al-Ajami — in front of Masjid Al-Quwairi, Alexandria

The permanent home. The hospital expanded floor by floor to reach five full floors and 1,000m². Dr. Khaled joined in 2012 as Assistant Executive Director and Surgeon, later leading the complete architectural renovation of the building. International patients began arriving from across the Arab world, Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

Dr. Khaled Joins — The Second Generation

Dr. Khaled Mohammed Ghalwash joined as Assistant Executive Director and Surgeon, trained directly under his father. A decade of mentorship and executive leadership followed. Alongside surgical training, he had been building software systems since 2012 — a dual expertise that would later produce Ghalwash.ai.
